The Plant Engineer has overall responsibility for the planning, designing, specifying, installing, modifying and maintaining plant facilities, systems and equipment.
DEPARTMENTAL ROLE / CONTEXT
The Maintenance Department is responsible for providing maintenance and technical support for the Production team. The department provides support maintenance capabilities and tools to aid in the management of the plant. Additionally, it has responsibility for the design and implementation of breakdown, preventative, and predictive, and condition based maintenance activities of the plant. It brings the development and implementation of the maintenance matrix via the CMMS.
POSITION PURPOSE
The Plant Engineer has overall responsibility for the planning, designing, specifying, installing, modifying and maintaining plant facilities, systems and equipment. The Plant Engineer reviews the production with the aim to improve efficiency via maintenance, refurbishment, repair or upgrade to new technologies.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
To be considered for this role, the ideal person will need to demonstrate:
Essential technical / specialist competencies
- Manage the maintenance programme for all bottling equipment and facilities i.e. air compressors, air conditioners, production lines and utility support services in terms of electrical/electronic components, such as but not limited to circuit breakers, electronic cards, programmable logic control, electronic bottle inspectors, date coders, etc.
- Oversee the schedule cleaning of mechanical, electrical/electronic components of all plant production equipment and facilities.
- Analyse and review maintenance and production reports to highlight chronic persistent electrical/electronic problem areas and direct corrective action to maximise efficiency and to minimise down time.
- Train and organise maintenance technicians and engineers into well experienced shifts to efficiently handle mechanical and electrical breakdowns and routine maintenance in order to minimise time loss and improve efficiency.
- Train with other manufacturing section/department in continually improving the working output and performance efficiencies of all machineries
Preventative Maintenance
- Develop and implement measures for machines performance, inadequacies or malfunctioning are continually improved upon, minimised or eliminated, e.g. bottle breakages, shortfills, unlevels, beverage/syrup losses, etc.
- Encourage teaming with relevant plant departments/units in ensuring team building in maintenance and QC processes.
- Implement the opportunities for improvement in equipment maintainability and reliability.
- Lead and participate in technical audits and compliance assessments, and follows up on closure of remedial action plans.
- Identify equipment ‘hot spots’ across the site through analysis of downtime and maintenance spend trends.
- Analyse condition of existing equipment, identify weaknesses and improvement opportunities.
- Consult with suppliers, trade technicians, production and the broader SMJ community on equipment standards, procedures and improvement opportunities.
- Collaborate with mechanical and production technicians to implement management routines that will restore and maintain equipment reliability.
- Lead maintenance improvement activities to enhance overall equipment performance including safety, quality and reliability.
- Approve standard preventative maintenance procedures.
Maintenance Asset Management
