Bermuda Electric Light Company Limited invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for the position of Plant Engineer

The Plant Engineer acts as technical resource person for Plant Management and Operations Centre staff and will have extensive hands-on involvement with plant Operations and running maintenance. The Plant Engineer also ensures that operational procedures and safety standards are applied and up to date.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INVOLVE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

• Ensure plant reliability and improvements, provides advice and technical support for equipment maintenance, plant reliability and improvements, operational procedures and safety standards
• Ensure that employees carry out their duties in a manner that is in compliance with the organization’s environmental and occupational health and safety management systems
• Exemplify safety and operational standards when completing work, as well as technical skills and a commitment to developing the skills of co-workers and other members of the plant
• Liaise with other engineering professionals and/or external consultants or vendors to discuss/resolve Plant issues or problems
• Provide Vice President, Energy Supply with monthly reports regarding Plant activities and issues
• Occasionally provides inputs for capital and operational budgets and makes recommendations for Specialist and/or Foreman developmental needs

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Qualified to a recognizable level, Marine Engineer First Class Certificate (Motor and Steam) or Power Engineer First class preferable H.N.C. qualifications
• Minimum of ten (10) years operations experience in power, marine or a related field, with a least seven (7) years experience as first engineer in large marine or stationary diesel engines rated greater than 8 MW
• Proven experience of diesel and gas turbine electric generating plant and related auxiliaries including steam plant
• Practical knowledge of electrical theory, power systems, so as to demonstrate technical competence and comprehension of the equipment and system and in order to participate in training of operations personnel.
• In-depth knowledge of applicable engineering Codes, Standards and Regulations
• Strong interpersonal skills with ability to liaise with contractors, suppliers and  employees at all levels  
• Strong problem solving skills with ability to collect, collate and analyze data, identify problems, determine root cause and make decisions and recommendations
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Proven abilities in employee development, on-the-job training, assessing and coaching employees.
