NETWORK SPECIALIST – DESIGN & ENGINEERING
A vacancy exists for the position of Network Specialist – Design & Engineering at the Washington Blvd location of ECS.
CORE Functions:
This position is responsible for providing leadership in relation to the design, engineering, Tier 2 support and other technical support of the Company’s Telecommunication systems to include Telephone, Fiber, Two-way Radio, Microwave Radio, Substation Support Systems and Data Network and leveraging the core telecommunications infrastructure to exploit revenue opportunities. The incumbent is also responsible for supervising a team of engineers and technicians. Additionally, the incumbent will manage all related project activities
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Five (5) years related experience with a minimum of two years spanning telephone systems, two-way radio systems, fiber systems, RF systems, SCADA systems and network development and exposure in managing the implementation of major systems.
Additional requirements:
- Bachelors of Science in Computer Science, Information Technology or Electrical Engineering.
- Training or certification in Project Management.
- Professional Certification in IP network administration, Advanced Network Design and Telecommunications Technologies
- Training in data and business modeling.
- Good human relations and communication skills.
- Sound skills in computer systems, network administration and engineering.
- Good reasoning and analytical skills.
Core responsibilities include:
- Leads research and development initiatives that will form the basis of the implementation of new infrastructure for various Telecommunication solutions.
- Manages Telecommunication and Information Technology projects, including the assignment of project tasks to teams and individuals.
- Prepares project documents including technical specifications, tenders and evaluations.
- Develops and maintains baseline plans for the overall project including budgets, schedules and project specifications.
- Reviews and recommends business process improvements as it relates to the use of telecommunication systems.
- Plans and manages user acceptance testing and communication programmes.
- Develops project proposals including cost benefits analyses.
- Manages suppliers and consultants ensuring adherence to contractual obligations.
- Reviews projects and reports to the Steering Committee on their overall progress.
- Develops, recommends and reviews the JPSCo telecommunication network topology and configuration used in the implementation of information technology applications.
The incumbent is expected to demonstrate the following competencies at a high level in order to successfully accomplish the requirements of the position:
- Sound knowledge of network architectures, hardware and operating systems.
- Sound knowledge in systems development and implementation.
- Sound knowledge of business system analysis and design.
- Knowledge of project management methodologies and systems.
- Knowledge of the preparation and maintenance of project plans.
- Understanding of building construction, architectural plans and CAD software.
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills
