Montserrat Development Corporation

The Montserrat Development Corporation (MDC) is an arms-length agency of the Government of Montserrat. Its mandate is to promote economic development on Montserrat, supporting the Government’s drive towards greater economic self-sufficiency.

Its remit covers two broad areas:

Infrastructure

MDC is the lead developer of the Master Plan for the Little Bay area of Montserrat. The long term objectives of the Master Plan are to build a new capital town for Montserrat, construct a new port (including a cruise terminal) and create a range of high end tourism facilities, including a marina, hotel (s), villas and condominiums. Discussions are under way with international and local investors who have expressed interest in elements of the development.

Trade & Investment Promotion

MDC is responsible for attracting investment to the island from overseas, the Montserratian diaspora and local people. It operates a One Stop Shop to provide a single point of contact for all investor enquiries and will undertake market research and targeting in key market sectors. MDC is also responsible for providing business development support for local businesses, particularly those with export and import substitution potential.
