St. Jude's Hospital is a Statutory Facility. The Hospital was statutorised on April 1, 2003 by the passage of the St. Jude Hospital Act No. 7 of 2003. The Hospital's first Management Board was appointed and formally launched in May 2003.
St. Jude Hospital is a secondary hospital located in the southern part of the island. The hospital is Government owned, but was previously managed by the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother, a Catholic Order base in the USA from 1966 to 1992.
In 1992, the religious body gave up the management of the hospital and returned to the USA. In 1993, the Ministry of Health awarded a contract to Mercy Medical Centre in Des Moines, Iowa for the management of the facility.,
