The successful candidate will be responsible for the management of all legal, regulatory, compliance and governance matters. He/she must have a thorough understanding of the legislation and regulations that drive compliance
Key Responsibilities include:-
Managing the Bank’s legal risks. Review and preparation of legal documents.
Liaising and managing relationships with external Attorneys-at-Law engaged in a range of matters on behalf of the Bank.
Liaising with external regulatory agencies.
Monitoring compliance with all relevant legislation and regulations.
Monitoring and managing the legal and compliance risks associated with the Bank’s new and existing products, services and areas of business by working with each branch, revenue generating centre or cost/support centre.
Managing the framework for annual compliance reviews relevant to AML/CTF Compliance.
Ensuring and supporting the delivery of training to support ethics, banking law and AML/CTF.
Performing the duties of Assistant Corporate Secretary.
Preparing reports and opinions to guide decision making at the Board and Senior Management level
Assisting with the protection of the Bank’s assets by attending to the legal integrity of the same
Qualifications & Experience
Must fulfill all requirements for the practice of law in Barbados.
Bachelor’s Degree in Law and Legal Education Certificate or Legal Practitioner’s Certificate from a reputable Law School.
Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in an in-house legal environment in a bank or other financial institution or five years’ experience in banking or finance and company law.
Managerial experience of at least two (2) years.
