Applications are invited for the position of Logistics & Distribution Manager - Receiving and Warehousing for our Santa Rosa Distribution Centre.

The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that all inventory held on the warehouse floor is stored in accordance with warehousing best practice standards, is compliant with manufacturers’ specifications, and in a manner that will facilitate easy accessibility and retrieval for the purposes of satisfying the needs of our internal and external customers and in line with the business at all times. 

 Duties include:

  • Assist with ensuring that merchandize in storage on the warehouse floor is maintained in an efficient and safe manner without compromise to either its integrity or the safety of all employees at the Distribution Centre.
  • Assist with ensuring that policies and procedures regarding the storage of stock are adhered to at all times.
  • Assist with ensuring that all areas where stock is held in storage are always in a state of readiness for all stock counts i.e. both weekly perpetual and quarterly.
  • Responsible for ensuring that general housekeeping is maintained in a manner that would foster and encourage the highest standards of safety and health.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all Plant and Equipment are fully operational at all times.
  • Responsible for the formulation and enforcement of the requisite Preventative Maintenance Schedules so as to minimize down-time and repair costs on all Plant and Equipment
  • Responsible for liaising with the relevant service providers as necessary in all instances of plant and equipment failure.
  • Works with the L & D Manager Receiving to review storage space requirement to ensure the efficient receiving and storage of incoming inventory.
  • Responsible for ensuring that staffing at the level of the porters/forklift operators in the various floor operations departments is adequate and in line with the needs of the business at all times.
  • Responsible for liaising with the contract labour provider/s on all issues relative to compliance with procedures, guidelines, and the overall performance of the workforce provided to us.
  • Assist with ensuring that all staff is equipped with the requisite tools, personal protective equipment (PPE) and training sufficient to carry out their specific job functions.
  • Ensures that appraisals for employees under their direct supervision are carried out in compliance with Company’s requirements.
  • Assist with ensuring that recommended and approved staff training and development initiatives identified during appraisals are implemented within the agreed time frame.
  • Assist with ensuring that all staff issues related to compensation and benefit, labour relations and negotiations are addressed and directed to the relevant HR department for follow-up.
  • Participates in the resolution of employee conflict and grievance.
  • Creates and reviews as necessary all systems and procedures within the specific area of the business under their direct control on an ongoing basis.
  • Contributes towards the formulation of the annual Financial Budget for the department.
  • Assist with ensuring that the company’s vision as it relates to the promise to the customer is clearly communicated and inculcated in staff under their direct supervision.
  • Contributes towards the review and development of the annual Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Actively participates/collaborates with all other department management heads towards the achievement of the Company’s goals and objectives
  • Performs any other related duties as requested by the L & D Manager Receiving & Warehousing and/or Director of Warehousing & Distribution.

 Qualification and Experience

  • Degree in Management, Business Administration or related discipline
  • Three (3) years experience in a Supervisory/Management position within a medium to large retail/commercial operation
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Basic Proficiency in Occupational Safety & Health
  • Must be organized, self-confident/motivated, goal-oriented, persistent and committed, able to cope well in stress-related environments and possess computer literacy skills
  • Basic knowledge of Warehousing and Logistics principles
  • Good report writing skills
  • Time management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strength in decision-making
