The Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica is inviting applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the post of Legal Officer. 

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel, the successful candidate will, among other duties, be required to:

• Prepare/review commercial contracts, agreements, and provide legal advice

• Drafts, reviews and amends as necessary, contracts and other legal documents

• Provides legal advice and advocacy as needed, on routine operations of the Corporation to provide the basis for decision-making by the management

• Interfaces with relevant public and private sector entities and foreign organizations, on legal issues pertinent to the sound operations of the Corporation

THE REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate will be selected against the following criteria:

▪          A Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB)

▪          Certificate in Legal Education.

▪          A minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a Lawyer or LegalAdministratorin the public or private sector. 

▪          Knowledge of the Company Laws of Jamaica; environmental laws; contract negotiations and drafting, as well as Corporate Governance principles and practices.

▪          Knowledge of commercial law

▪          A demonstrated ability to perform in a liaison capacity with a Board of Directors, senior level management and government representatives.

▪          Proficiency in the use of relevant computer applications.

▪          Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Knowledge in the following areas would be advantageous:

International agreements relevant to the petroleum trade.

Public Bodies Management and Accountability Act

Government of Jamaica Policy on Public Sector Procurement Procedures
