Duties and Responsibilities:

 

 

  • Sets up equipment and other required materials for practical exercises;

  • Assists with instruction and/or demonstration of workshop/laboratory exercises;

  • Provides research support  to students;

  • Provides reports and feedback to supervisor and/or lecturer;

  • Prepares workshop/laboratory specimen;

  • Performs minor maintenance on instructional equipment;

  • Facilitates the cleaning and maintenance of the Laboratory Facilities;

  • Facilitates the delivery and commissioning of new equipment;

  • Facilitates the provision of required equipment repairs or replacement;

  • Liaises with University staff and external technicians, contractors and other personnel concerning laboratory related matters;

  • Maintains inventory of all equipment and related materials in area of responsibility;

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Technician Diploma or equivalent related academic qualification

  • Minimum of three (3) years relevant work experience

 COMPETENCIES

  • Knowledge of the area of instruction being demonstrated

  • Knowledge of relevant software, hardware and lab equipment to be used in exercises

  • Ability to instruct

  • Ability to work effectively in teams

  • Excellent communication (oral and written) skills

  • Computer literate

  • Takes initiative
