LEAD RESEARCH OFFICER
We are a public policy think tank based at the University of the West Indies, Mona, dedicated to the provision of impartial, evidence-based knowledge to inform economic and social policy decision-making in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean. We invite applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the position of:
LEAD RESEARCH OFFICER
Reporting to the Co-Executive Director primarily responsible for research or any of his/her designates, the Lead Research Officer is responsible for conducting and reporting on quantitative and qualitative research and analysis on a wide range of issues in the areas of economics, public finance, public policy and or other related fields and providing oversight to two (2) Research Officers.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Supervising the concept development, design and execution of research projects on public policy issues;
- Drafting research grant proposals;
- Conducting and/ or supervising data collection, verification, entry and manipulation;
- Analysing data to prepare and present findings, both orally and written in a variety of output types (reports, summaries, press releases, presentations, articles etc.);
- Assisting with the dissemination of information at events and or via media appearances;
- Any task that may be required to assist the Executive Directors, Director of Programmes or the Board of Directors
Qualifications & Skills Required:
- Postgraduate degree in Economics, Development Studies or related field
- Competence in quantitative and/or qualitative methodologies, research techniques and analysis
- Excellent oral and written (including electronic) communication skills, with demonstrated ability to produce analytical and well-argued reports
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Full proficiency in the use of word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to work flexible hours
- Ability to work with little or no supervision
- Ability to multitask and work in a dynamic environment while meeting tight deadlines
Salary range: 2.2-2.5 million
