SOL is seeking to recruit a Group Finance Manager. We are the largest independent petroleum marketing company in the Caribbean basin, with operations spanning across 21 countries.  This complex business is managed through talented local managers and is ably supported by a Corporate Head Office located in Barbados.  This position will be based in Barbados with travel across SOL’s business locations, as necessary.

 

Job Summary

 

The Group Finance Manager is a senior member of the finance leadership team and will report to the Chief Financial Officer.  He/She will be responsible for managing, directing and supervising the overall activities for accounting and internal controls; developing implementation plans and tactics and ensuring the effective implementation of approved strategies.  The position is also responsible for providing counsel on financial processes and procedures to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of the accounting function.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Establish, supervise, direct and maintain proper procedures relative to the quality and timelines of all reports emanating from the accounts department.
  • Ensure that accounting practices of a complex nature and procedures are adequately reviewed to determine compliance with company policies, departmental instructions and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Prepare the Group’s monthly reporting and other strategic reports.
  • Assist the Chief Financial Officer in ensuring the Group meets all of its reporting and financial targets under the Group’s banking agreements.
  • Coordinate and manage the Group’s external audits to ensure timeliness and efficiency of completion.
  • Prepare annual financial statements that are in compliance with the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Review current compliance and ongoing maintenance of SOL’s internal control standards.
  • Assist in the management of the working capital components of the Group with specific reference to inventory, accounts receivable and cash balances.
  • Direct the Accounting Group in the performance of financial/accounting advice and decision support.
  • Participate in the preparation, analysis and explanation of variances related to the business plans.
  • Assist in the development and execution of the Group’s taxation strategy.
  • Facilitate personnel movement, succession planning and career development processes to recruit, develop and retain qualified and motivated Accounting staff.
  • Implement performance alignment programs to ensure key members of staff have fully developed Performance Reviews, counsel, mentor and direct reports to enhance performance.
  • Manage relationship with auditors, tax advisors, brokers, bankers and other parties as directed by the Chief Financial Officer.
  • Ensure that the Chief Financial Officer is kept informed of industry and international financial reporting developments which are relevant to the operation of an efficient finance function. 

 

Experience & Attributes

 

The ideal candidate should possess the following:

 

  • A minimum of five (5) years senior management experience, with two (2) to three (3) years experience in a similar role.  
  • Senior level experience in Oil & Gas industry would be an asset.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision making skills.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of accounting and other relevant computer applications.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial analysis.
  • Sound technical knowledge.
  • Well developed human resource management skills. 

 

Qualifications

 

Chartered Accountant Designation required.

 

MBA would be an asset.
