The Internal Auditor develops an independent, objective assurance function within the company ensuring compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements. The role is intended to add value and improve by bringing a systematic disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control and governance. All activities must conform to organizational guidelines and standards and to all legal, statutory, regulatory and treaty requirements.

2. Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Develops and Implements an Internal Audit function for the organization which includes audit planning and resourcing • Investigates and appraises the system of internal controls within the company and assesses their adequacy to supporting organization risk management policy • Ascertains whether each department has a clear understanding of its goals and assignments, maintains good records, protects cash and other assets efficiently • Reviews the reliability and integrity of financial and operational information and the system used to identify, measure, classify and report such information • Reviews the systems established to ensure compliance with those policies, plans, procedures, laws and regulations which have a significant impact on the operation including Anti Money Laundering policy and the Insurance Act and reports whether or not the company is complying with these laws • Reviews the means of safeguarding assets and, where appropriate, verifies the existence of such assets • Provides objective analysis, appraisals, recommendations and information concerning activities reviewed • Reports directly to the Audit Committee • Provides support to the external audit process in furtherance of an efficient and effective audit • Establishes and/or develops the capabilities, talent and capacity of the Internal Audit function to best suit the Organization • Guides and provides support to Internal Management Team with needs arising from application and interpretation of the Insurance Act |
