Overview - The Integrity Commission

The Integrity Commission is established by the Constitution of Trinidad and Tobago. It is an independent body comprising five members appointed by the President in accordance with Section 4 of the Integrity in Public Life Act, 2000. Section 4 prescribes the appointment and composition of the Commission and requires that the members of the Commission be persons of integrity and high standing of whom at least one shall be an attorney-at-law of at least ten years experience and one shall be a chartered or certified accountant.

The independence of the Commission is made clear in Section 5 (2) (a) of the Act which states that, “In the exercise of its powers and performance of its functions under this Act, the Commission shall not be subject to the direction or control of any other person or authority.”
