IT Infrastructure Administrator

 

Primary objective of the job:

o The IT Infrastructure Administrator is responsible for the performance, integrity and security of

our databases, servers and network infrastructure. Additional role requirements include planning,

development and troubleshooting.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

o Design, implement and support a Linux and Microsoft Windows Server environment.

o Administer the LAMP Stack as well as manage the Proxy Server.

o Administer Asterisk Voice Server.

o Knowledgeable in the setup and maintenance of VPN Servers.

o Possess strong scripting/programming skills.

o Develop, update and troubleshoot scripts (SHELL, PHP, etc).

o Compile, customize, install and troubleshoot various Open Source software.

o Manages the administration of all MySQL, and Microsoft SQL Server databases.

o Develop and implement database and job changes to support data transfers, application portfolios,

and business requests, user administration for database and application access, follow standards

and change management processes, and working closely with the application developers and

vendors.

o Responsible for ensuring availability and performance of the databases that support the systems.

o Proactively monitor database systems, servers and services to ensure secure and optimal

functionality with minimum downtime.

o Work with the team to ensure that the associated hardware resources are allocated to the

database and to ensure high availability and optimum performance.

o Responsible for providing trend analysis to the service management team to enable them to make

informed decisions regarding resource management.

o Responsible for problem escalation to third parties as appropriate.

o Responsible for improvement and maintenance of servers, personal computers, and peripherals to

include rollout and upgrades. Test and apply new software and maintenance patches.

o Responsible for implementation and release of database changes as required.

o Establishing the user needs and monitoring user access and security.

o Ensure that storage, archiving, backup and recovery procedures are functioning correctly.

o Working closely with the relevant teams in the Digicel Markets (i.e. System Administrator team, IP

Administration team etc.) and developers and vendors.

o Developing, managing and testing backup and recovery plans.

o Install and assist in maintaining local and remote hardware, as well as software to facilitate

business operations of First Communication and its associated companies.

o Maintain, monitor and safeguard the Company’s Local and Wide Area Networks so that the

required levels of network operation are maintained.

o Monitor and analyse the resource usage of the network, printers and technical resources.

o Works to ensure that technical/network systems remains operational and are a reliable support for

the Company’s operations.

Academic qualifications and experience required for job:

o Must have one or more of the following:

o Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or a related field

o Certificate in Linux Administration

o Certificate in Network Administration

o Certificate in Database Administration (preferably in MySQL).

o Exposure and experience in Project Management.

o Highly proficient in oral and written communication skills.

o Minimum of 3 years experience in Information Technology, including System Administration.
