Purpose of the Role
The IP engineer is the technical person, who will be responsible for providing direct hands on support for the Data Communication infrastructure and peripheral networks across Flow business units. The focus will be on the implementation and support of technologies to provide a highly reliable, supportable and technically superior Broadband services network, Direct Fibre Data network, Core IP network and Corporate IT Network infrastructure.
This position requires practical knowledge of Ethernet switching and IP routing and underlying technologies (TCP/IP, OSPF, RIP, Enterprise L2/L3 switching, IP Security) as well as knowledge of Service provider lease and switched circuits designs. Additionally, the position requires the ability to understand and integrate complex designs using multi-vendor equipment.
Primary Accountabilities
The primary role will be to provide 1st line support for network hardware and overall infrastructure deployments and 2nd line support for IP services and network connectivity problems. The position requires that the individual prov1de after hours and weekend on-call support on on a rotating basis.
The primary deliverables include the deployment of a commercial grade broadband service offering using Fiber to the Premises technology and a residential subscriber Internet Services and integration of these services into the existing business applications ensuring revenue protection. The deployments may occur in multiple environments including Production and Pre Production environments. The IP Engineer will be expected to also contribute to the ongoing improvement in application and platform availability, the training of 1st line support staff and reduction of problem calls by implementing automated processes.
