Hardware & Lumber Ltd
Following an agreement on December 9, 1927, the Henriques brothers sold the complete stock of their Hardware Marine & Engineering business to Hardware & Lumber Limited. H&L was then incorporated on December 13, 1927 and opened its first location at 4 King Street in Kingston. The company sold lumber and hardware products including paints, oils, glassware, silverware, earthenware, pottery, leather goods, firearms, explosives, car parts and accessories, electrical fittings and appliances.
Decades later Hardware & Lumber has expanded into two business units, hardware and agriculture. Today, operating as H&L Agro and H&L Rapid True Value, the company is renowned as the premier hardware and agricultural retailer and wholesaler in Jamaica.
The vision of H&L and their first manager Lionel deCordova was clear, provide the best products and quality service to the customers who came to its King Street location. That vision remains entrenched today as Hardware & Lumber has grown from one store in Kingston to five H&L Agro branches and ten Rapid True Value locations across Jamaica.
A member of the Argyle Industries, the company is the foremost retail and wholesale supplier of hardware and home improvement products under its Rapid True Value brand. Through its H&L Agro business the company is a trusted partner in Jamaica's agriculture sector helping to expand the capacity and yield of both commercial and small farmers across the island.
