HIV AND AIDS ADVOCACY OFFICER
Job Summary:
The Advocacy Officer is responsible for the delivery of direct HIV and AIDS technical support to government ministries, private sector employers and employers’ representatives, unions and the informal sector for the implementation of the National Workplace Policy on HIV and AIDS and the HASC’s Sustainability Plan. The Advocacy Officer may be required to conduct workshops, advocacy and other activities in Tobago as required.
Reports to: Senior Advocacy Officer, HASC
Duties and Responsibilities:
Design and implement programmes for HASC’s advocacy activities;
Provide ongoing sensitization, technical support and guidance to the public and private sector and workers in the informal economy for the implementation of the National Workplace Policy on HIV and AIDS;
Prepare reports on programmes and activities;
Use advocacy activities to develop a network of key constituents and stakeholders and foster interest among government, employers and workers in addressing HIV at their workplaces;
Assist with the development, implementation and review of monitoring and evaluation systems for HASC’s programmes and activities;
Participate in the preparation of promotional activities and related materials;
Participate in the development and implementation of relevant research;
Assist in providing organizational strengthening and capacity building to NGO’s and the tripartite community;
Document emerging trends, good practices and issues relevant to HIV and the world of work;
Facilitate workshops as needed to provide training on workplace policy development;
Assist in the preparation, implementation and monitoring of consultancies and contracts;
Perform any other related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of HIV and AIDS workplace related issues;
Knowledge of Industrial Relations would be highly preferred;
Excellent presentation, training and facilitation skills;
Project Management skills would be desirable;
Excellent networking skills;
Excellent communication and leadership skills;
Ability to prepare and present complex reports;
Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships and to exercise initiative, tact and diplomacy.
Training and Experience:
Bachelors degree in Social Sciences (preferably Health Communication, Sociology or a related field).
Training in Organizational Behavior and/or Human Resources preferred.
Three (3) years experience in HIV and AIDS education and/or HIV and AIDS programme management and implementation.
Experience conducting outreach and advocacy activities highly preferred.
Any equivalent combination of experience and training will be considered.
