HEAD MILLER – Jamaica Grain and Cereal
THE ROLE
The incumbent will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the milling process, providing leadership and training to the mill staff towards achieving maximum milling efficiencies with the highest finished product quality, in keeping with established specifications.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for the overall supervision, management, and development of all employees within the milling department.
- Ensures that all personnel in the milling department are fully trained and motivated.
- Works closely with the mill crew to manage change, explaining the rationale for certain operational requirements.
- Conducts performance reviews on a regular basis, providing guidance on areas for improvement and ensuring disciplinary action for unsatisfactory performance.
- Implements 5’s standards that maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Leads the milling department’s commitment to Total Quality Management, ensuring compliance with all food safety regulations including GMP’s, HACCP.
- Ensures effective housekeeping and hygiene practices and all applicable Food Safety Management Systems are documented as required.
- Ensures the milling department successfully achieves all production and operational efficiency goals (KPI’s).
- Reviews shift reports daily and implements immediate corrective action for any operational loss of efficiency.
10. Ensures accuracy and timeliness of entering production data in the ERP.
11. Implements Autonomous Maintenance programs that drive unscheduled downtime towards zero.
12. Collaborates with the Maintenance Manager to effectively plan mill repair activities, focusing on preventative and predictive maintenance. Ensures inventories are maintained for critical mill supplies; sifter supplies, filter socks, spare roll chills.
13. Manages the milling department’s commitment to safety and ensures compliance in the areas of health, safety, and environment.
14. Works closely with quality control function to ensure the daily productions meet all quality specifications and food safety standards.
15. Drives a continuous improvement culture through initiating focused process improvement projects (Kaizen Blitz).
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- B.Sc degree in Milling Science, or equivalent qualification in related field.
- Minimum eight (8) years’ experience in production and plant operations, with at least three (3) years as Head Miller or equivalent related experience.
ABILITIES AND SKILLS
- Must have ability to read milling flow diagrams, blueprints and other technical drawings
- Working knowledge of Six Sigma, LEAN Manufacturing, and Kaizen continuous improvement tools
- Working knowledge of Food Safety Management Systems, ISO 22000, HACCP
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for a demanding and customer focused work environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications EXCEL, Word, Power Point
- Ability to analyse problems, detect root causes and resolve all issues.
- Excellent time management, planning, organization and prioritization skills.
- Advanced safety training
- Basic finance knowledge and experience with an ERP
