GENERAL MANAGER- FARMING OPERATIONS

SERGE ISLAND FARMS (A subsidiary of Seprod Limited) 

THE ROLE 

The incumbent will manage all agricultural operations by ensuring the highest levels of efficiency and productivity, while executing the budget to ensure the realisation of the Company’s strategic objectives. A consultative management style with ability to stimulate and lead a  high performance management team; good understanding and experience with Board governance; a firm and persuasive style, sound judgement and a team building approach that encourages an infrastructure of support are critical attributes for the role. 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES 

1. Manage the production of milk  from over  2,000 cows daily

1. Ensure the supply of milk and other products in the agreed quantities and quality in a consistent and timely manner.

1. Manage  heifer growing and breeding farms with over 2,500 heifers.

1. Manage business relations with over 60 small farmers.

1. Develop and lead a cohesive management team with responsibility for various aspects of farm operations and systems, ensuring the management and control of all the agricultural husbandry practices related to the production of milk and replacement of heifers.

1. Work collaboratively with accounting team to develop, defend and execute the annual capital and recurrent budgets for farming operations.

1. Manage the production of all the required management reports.

1. Prepare quarterly Board Reports and attend Board meetings.

1. Participate in good housekeeping, food safety, and general safety initiatives as required by the Company 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE 

• Bachelors degree in Animal Husbandry from a recognised institution.
• Diploma  in Supervisory Management.
• A Postgraduate  degree in Genetics or Animal Nutrition would be an asset
• At least ten (10) years progressive senior management experience in commercial agricultural production, preferably in the dairy industry.
• Good working knowledge of financial statements and ability to manage operational costs
• Willingness  to work on week-ends and public holidays
