Massy Communications is looking for a dynamic individual to accept the role of Fiber Optic Technician. The successful candidate will be required to provide outside plant support by the evaluation, installation and maintenance of existing and new cable lines.

Massy Communications, is looking for a dynamic individual to accept the role of Fiber Optic Technician. The successful candidate will be required to provide outside plant support by the evaluation, installation and maintenance of existing and new cable lines.

FIBER OPTIC TECHNICIAN

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Install new cable lines, both underground and on T&TEC poles in keeping with industry best practice and HSE requirements
• Perform maintenance on existing cables, including evaluation tests and repairing existing or malfunctioning cables
• Cut and splice fiber optic cables, locate problem areas and perform other repairs as required
• Install and maintain network systems for private lines and determine solutions for faulty operating services
• Research and advise on new technologies and identify areas of the plant that need to be upgraded
• Participate in departmental planning meetings to coordinate and communicate activities to complete projects
• Compile data and prepare installation reports inclusive of Job Safety Analysis (JSA) Forms on the completion of each job
• Conduct field surveys in order to plan and schedule work
• Prepare specifications for the purchase of material and/or equipment

REQUIREMENTS

• Installation certificate from a recognized institute
• Seven CXC passes  inclusive of English Language and Mathematics
• Minimum of two years’ experience and training that provides the required knowledge,
  skills, and abilities
• Must have good eyesight and color recognition skills
• Basic computer literacy of Microsoft Office Suite
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability and willingness to learn and apply new technologies quickly
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and exercise commensurate levels of initiative
  and judgment
• A valid Heavy T license would be an asset
