ROLE REPORTS TO: SENIOR FIELD ENGINEER
JOB SUMMARY
The FIELD TECHNICIAN will be responsible for routine site maintenance of all RBS as well as the maintenance and restoration of the Fiber Optic cables throughout Digicel's network. The Field Technician will provide a compilation of all RBS and Fiber related reports on a weekly basis.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Routine Site Maintenance checks
  • Perform bimonthly maintenance checks on all sites on for transmission and BTS and correct issues where necessary.
  • Verify site maintenance and raise tickets accordingly.
  • Perform monthly generator checks such as, fuel level, alarms present.
  • Highlight and document any access and construction issues present and check air condition system on RBS.
  • Perform monthly checks on electrical system on sites, record any issues and create tickets.
  • Verify all environmental and BTS site alarming from generator and external alarms being reported to the NOC.
  • Perform thermography testing on Electrical Main boards and breakers (Provide trended results).
  • Perform conductance testing on switch / SDH sites batteries
  • Perform insulation testing on Generator AC alternators on all SDH and Shelter sites once per year
  • Perform full load testing using 30KVA load bank on all generators once per month.
  • Perform battery swaps on RBS at least once per year.
  • Provide weekly reports of site maintenance and exceptions encountered
  1. Fiber Maintenance and Repairs
  • Perform routine maintenance on existing fiber cables (evaluation tests).
  • Repair damaged fiber cables - splicing (fusion or mechanical) fiber to industrial standards.
  • Replace old or malfunctioning cables.
  • Locate problem areas and perform other repairs as needed.
  • Remove the damaged or old fiber from the TTEC poles and prepare for splicing and then restore the repaired fiber back onto the utility pole.
  • Provide weekly reports of fibre maintenance and exceptions encountered
  • Performs related work: "the duties listed above are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omissions of specific statements of duties do not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to that position."
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Diploma in Telecommunications/Electronics
  • Certificate in Fiber Optics Installation
  • At least two (2) years working experience in and with a mobile telecommunications sector/fiber outside plant would be considered a valuable asset.
  • An acceptable combination of academic qualifications and work experience may be considered in lieu of minimum requirements.
  • As a strong team player with the ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships within the Technical Unit locally and internationally, the successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and high levels of technical and business acumen - The role is highly varied and challenging and will require flexibility of character to manage the function within a constantly changing environment
