Position Description:

The Energy Engineer (EE)-Electrical is assigned to the Engineering Department. The EE is assigned to the Electrical Systems department. The EE has a primary role in the sale of energy efficiency and innovative solutions to potential and current clients. S/he builds relationships with key stakeholders, who are responsible for the timely, quality assured execution of internal and external client’s programmes/projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Energy Engineering Streams

  • Provides technical and practical advice to the Electrical Systems Stream – acts as the one of the thought leaders on energy engineering.

Sales Engineering

  • Utilises online and offline sources to cultivate new leads and develop/maintain the sales pipeline.
  • Makes daily outbound sales calls to business owners across all verticals.
  • Drives the full sales cycle to attain new business: make introductory calls, assess the building, develop the solution, present it and close the deal.
  • Updates reporting dashboards that aggregates development and updating of key business metrics.
  • Manages client lists with revenue retention and growth in mind while providing exceptional customer service.

Energy Auditing & Analysis

  • Collects data from the client in two areas:
    • Current building conditions and infrastructure analysis
    • All key building operating information.
  • Analyses the following information
    • Current energy consumption and classification of contributors
    • Building operations and maintenance schedules
    • Potential solutions across various specialty suppliers.
  • Conducts feasibility analysis and evaluates energy management solutions.

Energy Design Solutions

  • Models the building processes using various solutions to select the best fit to maximise energy savings and cost effectiveness
  • Develops the relevant documentation including, but not limited to, CAD drawings, product specification and bill of materials.
  • Creates the full investment appraisal for the design solution / project, which will also include estimates for all other costs, as well as estimates of project profitability.

Project Engineering

  • Assists projects team in creating implementation timelines for projects.

 

Technology Systems Research

  • Contributes to and maintains technical document library, templates, and project tools.
  • Addresses the effective identification, selection, acquisition, development, exploitation and protection of technologies (product, process and infrastructure) needed to maintain a market position and business performance in accordance with the company’s objectives.
  • Conducts technology, product and market intelligence in the energy management industry.
  • Identifies new technologies using, but not limited to supplier literature, industry journals and trade shows.
  • Selects new technologies using the following methodologies: financial analysis, customer research, current capabilities, corporate strategy, fit with current products / competencies, risk analysis and road-mapping.
  • Exploits new technologies through the applications of different business models – product / service / product and consumables, as well as selling and licensing the technologies
  • Collaborates with internal sales, projects and finance teams to select technologies and products based on application.

 

Key Competencies:

  • Solid command of engineering, mathematics, computer science and project management knowledge areas: theories, practices, techniques and tools.
  • Solid knowledge, understanding and experience of a business operations environment.
  • Good leadership, strategic thinking, influencing, inspiring/motivating and negotiating skills.
  • Ability to work in an environment of change while displaying sound judgement under pressure/fast-paced constraints.
  • Ability to manage a high volume of work and diverse range of portfolios, programmes, projects and activities.

 

Role Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited degree-granting tertiary institution with relevant experience in Design, Energy, Sales or Project Engineering.

 

Role Advancement:

 

It is expected as the organisations grow, the Engineering Department (ED) will mature. The role of the Energy Engineer will evolve through the addition of new assignments, and the expansion or removal of current assignments. Promotions can be either line-based or re-assignment promotions.
