Electrical & Instrument Engineering Manager
The Desalination Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (Desalcott) maintains its position as the largest operating desalination facility in the western hemisphere. The plant produces and supplies potable water to the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA). Desalcott is currently seeking to recruit a dynamic individual to fill the position of Electrical & Instrument Engineering Manager.
The Electrical & Instrument Engineering Manager will report to the Chief Engineer (or the General Manager on the absence of the Chief Engineer).
Reporting to the Senior Electrical and Instrument Engineer will be Electrical & Instrument Engineers of various grades, Electrical and Instrument Technicians of various grades and Electrician(s). Craftsmen/Hands from the Maintenance crew may be temporarily assigned to Electrical and Instrumentation work and will report to the Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering Manager or his/her designate.
The Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering Manager will be responsible for maintaining in good order all of Desalcott’s electrical and instrumentation equipment and systems including PLCs, the HMI control system and providing oversight regarding the administrative computers and network. As a minimum, this will involve predictive maintenance, preventative maintenance and breakdown repairs. The Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering Manager will also lead electrical and instrumentation input into plant improvement projects and plant expansion as necessary.
Detailed responsibilities will include the following:
- Planning and organizing the electrical, instrument and computer maintenance work so that it is carried out as efficiently and as reasonably possible
- Determining priorities and allocating resources accordingly
- Supervising the maintenance work in progress
- The timely requisitioning of materials and construction equipment for maintenance work
- Keeping records of work completed including detailed logs maintenance work carried out identified to equipment/system description and tag number.
- Daily and monthly reading of delivery meters and maintaining the production/delivery log/spreadsheet
- Monthly reading of electricity meters and the production of a report confirming check/verification of monthly T&TEC billings
- Producing monthly reports
- Design input to plant improvement and expansion projects
- Developing scopes of work and liaison with the Project Manager on work to be carried out as projects by outside contractors
- If instructed, deputizing for the Chief Engineer
- Any other work instructed by the Chief Engineer
In carrying out the above duties it will be necessary to closely liaise with other company personnel, in particular the other engineering departments, the Operations Department and the Procurement Department
Qualifications:
- BSc Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution
- Minimum of 8 years industrial experience in a process plant
- A Master’s Degree would be an asset
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Maintenance of industrial plant electrical and electronic instrument systems
- PLC (ladder logic) programming experience
- Low voltage, medium voltage and 15Kv industrial electrical systems including motors, MCC’s, transformers and switchgear
- Preventative and predictive maintenance systems and tools
- Planning and execution of small projects
- Troubleshooting of low voltage and medium voltage variable frequency drives (VFD’s)
- Computer literate in Microsoft Office applications
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
