Course Overview:

The discipline of project management has become central to the management approach adopted by numerous UK and international industries in both public and private sector. From the construction and property industries to information technology and heavy industry, there is growing recognition of the benefits strategic project management can bring.

The MSc Construction Project Management course at Heriot-Watt University equips graduates with the knowledge and skills to develop successful careers as professional project managers in the construction industry and beyond. For graduates with a first degree in a built environment subject it can provide a competitive edge in a fierce employment market. For architects, engineers and other professionals it can provide a move into project management.  The course increasingly attracts those whose qualifications and experience lie outside the field of construction, but recognise the career opportunities that exist for suitably qualified Construction Project Management graduates.

The course offers a breadth of management, procurement and technology related subjects delivered by an experienced course team and supported by an on-line virtual learning environment. Lectures, tutorials, group work and exercises are used to promote a stimulating and challenging learning experience. Taught from the perspective of construction project management, using principles that are applicable in all industrial sectors, this course provides students with access to both a solid theoretical base and current and future strategies in practical project management. It is focused on industrial relevance, ensuring that graduates of the course are quickly able to make a positive and effective contribution to the success of their working environment, and the development of their own professional careers.
