ESTATE SERGEANT

ESTATE SERGEANT                                                                                             

JOB SUMMARY

The incumbent oversees all activities and personnel on a shift. This may include one or more Estate Sergeants, Corporals and Constables. The incumbent works in accordance with policies and procedures of the CDA and in accordance with the Supplemental Police Act 15:02.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

  • Leads teams of Estate Corporals and Constables, with a mandate to protect all CDA assets, including occupants and visitors on the North Western Peninsula and Offshore Islands.
  • Performs all duties assigned in accordance with the standing orders.
  • Leads patrols, searches and other regular preventative policing activities.
  • Monitors and motivates his team by visiting outposts and officers on assignment, assessing all activities and giving support, direction and guidance as necessary.
  • Conducts/directs investigations of alleged violations of the law.
  • Provides operational support within the Estate by:
  1. Directing and controlling the flow of traffic and enforcing traffic laws and regulations.
  2. Participating in any joint police operations on the Estate.
  3. Performing Escort/Extra Duty for CDA tenants and clients in the area and rendering assistance to person/s in distress
  4. Assisting all state agencies in the area, in cases of emergency.
  • Maintains records of personnel, equipment, complaints/reports etc. and prepares weekly reports for submission to the inspector.
  • Attends Court as a complaint/witness and serves/executes summonses, warrants and other official documents.
  • Assists in the enforcement of all Health and Safety rules and regulations.
  • Participates fully in the preparation of an annual budget for the running of the Security Department.
  • Lectures and guides subordinate officers in policing within the framework of the law and in the techniques, skills and strategies required to be effective.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

  • Certificate in Security Management, or a related field.
  • 3 years experience in a similar or related capacity
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience.
