JOB TITLE: DIRECTOR OF SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT AND GENDER AFFAIRS

 

DEPARTMENT:                  Social Development and Gender Affairs

MINISTRY:                   Ministry of Environment and Home Affairs

LOCATION:                  Grand Turk

JOB SUMMARY:

The incumbent in this senior position will be responsible for over-seeing the general day-to-day operations and strategic oversight for the entire Department. He/she will have to insure the efficient and effective provision of front line social work and gender -related services to the client population throughout the Turks and Caicos Islands.

 

 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directs and participates in the development and implementation of the goals, objectives, policies and procedures of the department.

  • Establishes and maintains local, regional and international liaisons that will improve service delivery by the department.

  • Acts as advisor on policy matters and legislation that will impact welfare recipients.

  • Works in collaboration with interest groups and other government departments, religious and civic groups to assist with providing welfare benefits.

  • Monitors welfare programs to ensure the provision of cost effective social services to foster care, home help and other programs are reaching target groups.

  • Conducts relevant research and statistical data collection exercises that will enhance the performance of the department.

  • Supports the process of social policy formulation to allow for improved planning of national and social programs.

  • Apprises the Ministry on matters within the Departments jurisdiction, which may be politically or media sensitive.

  • Organizes community outreach groups on established islands.

  • Manages and supervises staff in the department to ensure proper training, continued management of public funds consistent with the relevant financial laws and regulations.

  • Conducts regular staff meetings to ensure policies and procedures are properly implemented and adhered to.

  • Counsels clients and their families when required.

  • Performs any other duties assigned by the Head of Department.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • ·                     A Master’s Degree in Social Work or related field.
  • ·                     No less than six (6) years in the field of Social Work at which three must have been at a managerial level.
  • ·                     At least five (5) years Clinical Counselling experience.
  • ·                     Experience in setting up a Probation Department and Juvenile Centers

 

SALARY: $55,000
