On behalf or our banking client, we are seeking a Credit Risk Manager.

On behalf of our banking client in Bermuda, we are seeking a Credit Risk Manager. Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer, the Credit Risk Manager will be responsible for all credit aspects of managing a commercial, corporate, and retail lending portfolio. 

 

Role and Responsibilities

In coordination with the Chief Risk Officer, and the Risk and Banking Teams, the Credit Risk Manager will be responsible for:

 

  • Providing credit expertise regarding portfolio composition, expectations and regulatory requirements;

  • Presenting credit information to executive management, regulators and auditors;

  • Creating bank wide operating procedures, guidelines and policy;

  • Participating in special projects and in strategic planning and initiatives to improve the credit process;

  • Ensuring the achievement of short and long range goals for operations and financial performance as it relates to loss mitigation;

  • Directing the examination of facility documentation before granting a commitment, to ensure adequacy and completeness;

  • Establishing, implementing, managing and reviewing the credit underwriting and approval process and procedures to protect the credit quality of the bank’s portfolios;

  • Personally and in participation with others, approving or denying requests for the most complex or sizeable facilities within a designated approval authority where difficult questions of policy or credit risk may be involved;

  • Identifying and administering major problem relationships and working to identify solutions to resolve problem loan situations and to restructure facilities, to protect the quality and profitability of the Bank’s portfolios and to minimize financial loss;

  • Providing training, development and co-ordination of banking staff;

  • Advising Bank staff on the Bank’s policies, identifying significant trends, and recommending policy changes, if necessary;

  • Preparing written and/or oral management reports relating to business results.

 

Person Specification

  • A business or accounting degree (masters preferred);

  • Professional qualification in credit management an advantage;

  • A minimum of ten years lending and credit experience covering commercial corporate and retail banking;

  • Good negotiation skills;

  • Good database extraction and manipulation skills;

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, English fluency a pre-requisite;

  • Highly numerate;

  • Excellent knowledge of credit policies, credit analysis, procedures and philosophy;

  • Experience of influencing a broad range of stakeholders;

  • Thorough knowledge of organizational, business practices, business philosophy and ethics;

  • Experience of leading a team where you have no direct responsibility;

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products;

  • Flexible, can do attitude suited to an evolving organisation.
