Chief Legal Officer

CHIEF LEGAL OFFICER

 

Working closely with the departmental heads, the Chief Legal Officer (CLO) provides leadership and support for the Corporation by effectively managing the legal activities and contract administration functions to
ensure the Corporation’s legal position is well developed and maintained.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • The CLO will establish all legal services required by the organization as well as ensure that the organization and its subsidiaries are protected from any legal action.
  • Advises on a range of legal issues, including corporate, financing, tax, real estate, pension, employment, insurance and reinsurance;
  • Negotiates and manages the drafting and review of contracts and related legal documents for the management of projects, procurement of goods and services and confidentiality of proprietary information.
  • Administers all contracts entered into by the Corporation
  • Represents the Corporation and /or senior executives and managers in legal proceedings and/or supervise such representation;
  • Oversees external counsel engaged by the Corporation on complex legal issues, and supervises and coordinates all work sent to external law firms
  • Develops a professionally competent staff of attorneys by effectively managing their  workloads and providing on going guidance and support and development opportunities

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

  • The candidate must possess an LLB from an accredited University and be an Attorney at Law admitted to practice in T&T and the holder of a current practising certificate from the Supreme Court of the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago.
  • An MBA and ADR experience would be considered an asset.
  • A minimum of 12 years’ experience practising law
  • Executive In-House Counsel and litigation experience is required.
  • 5 years’ Managerial experience
  • Experience with the FIDIC forms of contract and management of projects
