Position Description:
The Business Intelligence Analyst (BIA) is assigned to the Finance & Supply Chain Department. The role has responsibility for the management, analysis and interpretation of collected data and information in various functional areas. The BIA acts the internal business consultant who advises on how the business intelligence can be used in decisions, facilitating organisational change through numbers and metrics and influencing how the organisations deal with commercial risks and uncertainties. The BIA contributes to benefits realisation, cost management, new opportunities identification, capabilities analysis and organisational modelling to name a few.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Collection, Hygienics & Integrity Management
- Determines data entry service requirements by conducting surveys, forming focus groups, benchmarking best practices, and analysing information and applications.
- Advise the data collection team on the best way to collect data.
- Ensures collected data is clean and accurate over the entire data life cycle.
- Complete data integrity audits.
- Establish data integrity standards for the organisation(s) by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing data entry policies and procedures.
Data Exploration
- Shifts through to existing data to establish potential information and insights available.
Data Solution Architecture
- Organised shifted data in analysis-ready format.
- Develop conceptual and predictive models for use in hypothesis testing.
- Creates metrics to be used to measuring organisation performances.
- Build reporting dashboards that aggregates and updates key business metrics.
Data Analytics & Reporting
- Perform statistical analyses on the organised data.
- Review and troubleshoot sources of concerns based on business intelligence reports.
- Forecasts and projects financial, marketing and economical data and behaviours using historic and statistical modelling.
- Conducts a feasibility study and possibly a business case to justify an investment.
Data Systems Management
- Understand Natural Language Processing and Machine learning.
- Develop and manage databases.
- Use the knowledge of the technical systems to deliver specific business deliverables e.g. marketing campaigns, pricing recommendations.
Project Management
- Determine projects and programmes data goals and requirements.
- Preparing and completing action plans.
- Contribute to internal project teams where data management is required.
- Lead project team in data management-centric projects.
Business Strategy
- Advises senior management in clear language about the implications of his/her work for the organisation.
- Advises on production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards and resolving problems.
- Create examples, prototypes and demonstrations to help management better understand the work.
- Recognises, recommends, formalises and implements changes that drives improvements, innovation and organisational adaptability to change.
These areas will be executed in collaboration with a professional team selected for this purpose in a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment.

Role Requirements:
The Business Intelligence Analyst should:
- Strong analytical skills including the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Comfortable with manipulating and analysing complex, high-volume, high-dimensionality data from varying sources.
- Strong understanding of statistical, mathematical, predictive modelling using algorithms, software (R, MATLAB, SPSS, SAS, Stata, etc.) and programming languages (Python, R, Java, Ruby, Clojure, Matlab, Pig or SQL).
- Strong understanding of Hadoop, Hive and/or MapReduce to deal with large data sets and distributed computing.
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics & Consulting, Computer Science, Economics, Informatics / Information Systems, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field from an accredited degree-granting tertiary institution.
Role Advancement:
It is expected as the organisations grow, the Finance & Supply Chain Department will mature. The role of the BIA will evolve through the addition of new assignments, and the expansion or removal of current assignments. Promotions can be either line or re-assignments promotions. Future roles can be Business Intelligence Specialist or Business Intelligence Lead.
