The Job:

 

The Bursar's role is to support and complement the Director Finance in her responsibility for overall financial and administrative functions of the College. The primary role of this position is to adequately account for the billing, collection, refunding and accounting of students' tuition and college fees, loan account balances and other college receivables. The Bursar will ensure optimisation of the technological resources available for Student Accounts and Cashier's Offices, and is responsible for fully integrated businesses processes and reporting; utilising Banner, Argos, and other software as needed. He/she will manage the Students’ Accounts Receivable Banner module, students’ records management, data security and privacy of student records.

 

The successful candidate will:

  • Coordinate and oversee all activities
    associated with the student accounts receivable system, including billing,
    collections, write-offs, registration, monthly account reconciliations, accounting
    for GATE, etc.
  • Account for all cash and prepare
    deposits for crediting to proper bank accounts.
  • Monitor and oversee the collection of
    tuition and fees from students on behalf of the College in accordance with the
    college fee schedule.
  • Formulate and administer procedures and
    operating policies for Cashiers and Bursar’s areas of responsibility.
  • Manage audits, and internal
    and external reporting requirements.
  • Maintain knowledge of
    student tuition, fees, and miscellaneous charges.

    Review fee assessments as necessary.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in
    business or accounting.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years’
    experience as a Bursar; three (3) years’ of college training may be substituted
    for this requirement.
  • Considerable knowledge of
    principles and practices of bookkeeping and accounting procedures.
  • Must be proficient
    in Microsoft Office, strong Word & Excel skills preferred. Must be able to
    create pivot tables etc.
  • Must be flexible with work schedules
    and be available to work overtime on evenings and weekends, with or without
    advanced notice, as requested by Head of Department.
