1. JOB TITLE

BIOMEDICAL TECHNICIAN II

4. ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIP

The Biomedical Technician II will report to the Biomedical Technician III or in accordance with assignment.

5. NATURE & SCOPE

To perform skilled work in the servicing, repairing and maintenance of biomedical equipment under supervision.

 

6. SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

The Biomedical Technician II would be required to:

 

  • Perform planned preventative maintenance on a wide variety of Biomedical and electrical equipment.
  • Assist in the repairs, calibration and installation of biomedical equipment.
  • Assist in the monitoring of equipment in relation to user activities and making recommendations on same.
    • Monitor the duties and coach technicians on the repair and maintenance of equipment on which each is   specialised.
      • Maintain accurate records of all time spent on jobs.
      • Ensure that the technical effectiveness of activities are conducted.
      • Ensure that the completion of operational goals and objectives are efficiently achieved.
      • Display initiative with regards to work.
      • Perform other related duties as directed by the appropriate organisational relationship.

 

7.  KEY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent communication (oral/written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Sound analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills.
  • Sound knowledge of International Organisational for Standardisation (ISO).
  • Sound presentation skills.
  • Excellent supervisory skill.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships.
  • Excellent interpretation of schematic diagrams to perform effective repair and maintenance on basic and major biomedical equipment.
  • To keep up to date with changes in the engineering environment.
  • Physical strength and dexterity to assist with lifting, pushing or handling heavy objects and the ability to work with a variety hand and power tools.
  • Ability to work in tight spaces.
  • Ability to sit or stand for long time periods.
    • Excellent Knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology.
    • Knowledge of computer hardware, software and programming skills in the applied field.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of troubleshooting techniques on biomedical equipment or in a related technical field.
    • An understanding of the ethics of hospital practices as well as the hazards and safety considerations to patients and staff.

 

 

8.  MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  • Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technician (EEET) in a related field and/or training in a technical environment.
    • Sound knowledge of the Anatomy and Physiology of the human body as it relates to biomedical equipment.
    • Minimum of three (3) years experience in the maintenance of biomedical equipment or in a related technical field.
      • Proficient in the use of computers with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
      • Any other equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
