Job: Biomedical Technician II

Department: Imaging & Medical Supplies

Reports to: Divisional Manager

Division: Agostini Marketing

 

JOB SUMMARY

  • The Biomedical Technician II supports the functionality of all equipment installed by the IMS Division particularly with respect to software upgrades, configurations and network troubleshooting.

 

INTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS

  • Reports to the Divisional Manager.

 

EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS

  • Liaises with customers(existing and potential), suppliers, internal administrative team and warehouse.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

 

Maintenance of Existing Equipment

 

  • Schedules daily activities of biomedical team.
  • Responds to all customers’ technical problems within 24 hours. For emergency cases – the incumbent may need to work outside of usual work hours and on occasion – weekends and or public holidays.
  • Diagnoses and repairs problems according to manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Coordinates repairs with Foreign Service Engineers (when necessary) until problem is solved as well as keeps management and the customer abreast on a continuous basis. This would entail preparing escalation reports, sending e-mails and making calls on service issues which cannot be resolved by in-house personnel only.
  • Conducts Preventative Maintenance on all installed medical equipment under contract subject to manufacturer’s training or according to manufacturer’s guidance.

 

 

Role as it relates to New Equipment

 

  • Conducts pre-installation tests on new equipment (in-house where feasible) to confirm functionality prior to delivery/installation.
  • Installs new equipment at customer site as well as assists Foreign Service Engineers where necessary on equipment that requires installation by supplier engineers.
  • Coordinates the training sessions for the commissioning of new medical equipment at private and public health facilities.
  • Conducts operational training for end users of new equipment on customer site.
  • Spearheads internal training (for service staff) on new equipment which to be installed at customer sites.

 

 

Inventory Control

  • Monitors spare parts inventory on an on-going basis
  • Ensures that proper parts requisition protocol is followed when utilizing parts
  • Provides report on a monthly basis on recommended parts which ought to be ordered from suppliers

 

 

Product Knowledge

 

  • Acquires information on an on-going basis of suppliers’ products by becoming familiar with service manuals and receiving training as required.
  • Keeps abreast of latest technology/ service updates in the Agfa Portal and other relevant product lines.
  • Assisting tender team regarding compliance with specifications to ensure that all criteria are met.

 

Other

 

  • Submits service reports to Marketing Assistant on a daily basis to ensure that customer visits and work performed during visits are properly documented.
  • Provides feedback to service and sales team on possible opportunities and/or market developments that may be relevant.
  • Any other related duties as necessary

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Technical Diploma in Electronics, Computer Systems, Biomedical Technology or Digital Technology from a recognised institution.
  • First degree in an engineering or technical field would be an asset.
  • Five years of working experience in any of the above disciplines.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Must possess good communication and inter-personal skills.
  • Must own a vehicle for use on the job.
