Job Summary
The Ministry of Tertiary Education & Skills Training (MTEST) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, invite applications from suitably qualified persons to pursue a three (3) year Full-time Basic General and Basic Psychiatric Nursing Programme, as well as, a two and one half (2½) year Direct Entry Midwifery Programme from June 2015.
PROGRAMME DETAILS:
The Programmes of training will provide the Nursing/Midwifery
student with a range of theoretical and practical experiences
designed to develop Clinical competencies in the management and delivery of Nursing/Midwifery care for patients in Secondary, Tertiary and Community Health Care settings.
The training programmes will utilize an approach that combines block periods of theory in a classroom environment with extensive periods of Clinical practice in a variety of Clinical settings.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
This Programme of training will provide the Nursing Student
with a range of theoretical and practical experiences designed
to develop Clinical competencies in the management and
delivery of nursing care of patients in primary, secondary,
tertiary health care settings. These experiences cover those
aspects of the syllabus for Certification as a Registered Nurse
(RN). Graduates of the Basic Nursing Education Programme
(General) will be registered by the Nursing Council of Trinidad
and Tobago upon completion of the Regional Examination of
Nurse Registration (RENR). As an RN he/she can function
autonomously and collaboratively in the administration of care
for individuals of all ages, families, groups and communities,
sick or well.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS:
All applicants must possess:
Five (5) Ordinary Level subjects at G.C.E or C.X.C (General Proficiency Level) Grades I, II and III (from June 1998 onward),
inclusive of: English Language, a Science subject (HSB, Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Integrated Science) and a subject which demonstrates proficiency in numeracy skills, such as Mathematics or Principles of Accounts.
Required Competencies, Skills and Abilities
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
(a) be citizens of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago
(b) be seventeen (17) years and older
(c) complete the online application form (including the provision of two (2) references)
(d) successfully complete an assessment test.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
a) All applicants will be required to obtain a permit from the Nursing Council of Trinidad & Tobago to support their applications.
b) A Police Certificate of Character not older than six months
must be presented at the assessment (receipts will not be accepted).
c) Applicants are required to sit an assessment test at a cost of one hundred dollars (TT$100.00), plus VAT to be paid to the Government Human Resource Services Ltd. (GHRS).
