ATTORNEY GENERAL
Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for the post of Attorney General within the Legal Department in the British Overseas Territory of Montserrat.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful applicant would be the principal legal adviser to His Excellency the Governor, the Executive and Legislative Councils and the Government of Montserrat on all legal matters and serve as an ex-officio member of the Legislative and Executive Councils.
The Attorney General reports directly to His Excellency and is responsible for the following:
Representing the Government of Montserrat in civil and commercial proceedings.
Establishing clear objectives for the Attorney General’s Chambers in relation to the provision of legal advice and services to clients, communicating these clearly to staff and ensuring that the Chambers are managed in such a way as to achieve the agreed objectives.
Managing a law revision programme for Montserrat.
Providing advice to statutory corporations and committees.
Drafting and supervising the drafting of primary and subsidiary legislation and legal notices and advise on UK legislation applicable to Montserrat.
Drafting and supervising the preparation of all contractual documentation such as agreements and leases, to which the Governor’s Office, or the Government of Montserrat is a party.
Serving as the principal point of national or international contact in relation to the Laws of Montserrat.
The efficient management of the resources at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Chambers. This includes the duties and responsibilities of Accounting Officer and the development and management of staff performance.

Appointment will be made on a Contractual basis
REMUNERATION PACKAGE
The total remuneration package is EC$283,600.00 per annum which is subject to taxation. In addition, a performance based gratuity (12.5%) will be paid at the end of the contractual period.
