ADVANCED PRACTICE NURSE
The B.V.I Health Services Authority invites qualified and professional applicants for the position of ADVANCED PRACTICE NURSE. Under the supervision of the Senior Medical Officer with support from the District Medical Officer, The Advanced Practice Nurse will be responsible for providing Medical and Nursing Care; plans and organizes activities and care for individuals, family, groups, schools and community; provides health education; carries out research activities in the community and advises other Health Professionals and the community on health and other nursing issues.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (included but not limited to):
Provides Medical and Nursing Care in order to promote and maintain Health in the Community:
Assessing the Physical and Psycho-social health status of individuals and families;
Planning, implementing and evaluating health care with individuals and families based on identified needs;
Initiating programs designed to prevent, promote and maintain health;
Plans and organizes activities and care for individuals, groups and community to ensure that health care programs are implemented and maintained:
Developing plans and schedules as a basis for organization of work;
Utilizing the Health Information System for evaluation and planning of programs and activities.
Preparing and submitting appropriate records and reports;
Provides Health Education to staff, individuals, groups and community in order to facilitate the promotion of Health and disease prevention:
Developing, implementing and evaluating Patient/Client teaching programs;
Participating in the development, implementation and evaluation of community Health Education Programs;
Maintaining personal and professional education;
Carries out research activities in the community to improve Primary Health and Care given to individuals, groups and communities:
Collaborating with other Health Team members in conducting research activities.
Demonstrating the utilization of research findings in the improvement of care.
Minimum Requirements:
Education & Experience
BSc. Nursing – Advanced Practice Specialization required/MSc. level preferred
Registered Nurse Midwife
Three years’ experience post training
Licenses/Certifications
BLS/ACLS certification required/ PALS preferred.
Licensed as an Advanced Practice Nurse in his/her country of origin
Knowledge
Knowledge of best practice, medical record keeping, use of electronic information system and technology relevant to scope of practice
Knowledge of and competence in effective use diagnostic instruments
Knowledge of regulation/laws and rules governing the profession
Skills
Skilled in diagnosing specified medical conditions and treat appropriately.
Skilled in providing nursing care to high – risk infants
Skilled in the counseling of patients
Skilled in report writing and operating a computer
Skilled in the design and delivery of training programs
Abilities
Ability to conduct training programs
Able to maintain strict confidentiality
SALARY:
