Production of premier brand footwear
The Production Chief ensures that the optimal utilisation of production capacity is achieved by proper scheduling of workforce, equipment, production time and inventory levels. This role ensures that the Production team achieves production targets, optimum utilisation of resources, quality management and cost savings.
The incumbent must have proven experience in the manufacture of footwear and related materials at the industrialized level. The incumbent will strategically apply logistics/methods in optimizing levels of productivity; maintain production quality; consistently uphold customer service standards; meet and exceed daily production volume thereby increasing the company’s overall productivity levels.
The Production Chief shall perform tasks such as providing guidance to the production staff, transferring twice daily finished goods to Stores; and regularly assessing safety standards in all areas. Other duties include:
1) Establish and develop a seamless production flow to improve on efficiency and cost effectiveness
2) Coordinate, plan and direct all the activities that go into the production process
3) Visiting production units daily to keep up to date with any event that may alter the execution of the production plan.
4) Review inventories of raw materials, intermediate products, and finished products daily to monitor the use of such resources, the impact of their unexpected variations on the production plan and to support decision making.
5) Develop workflow policies and procedures that improve efficiency without compromising the safety or quality of output.
6) Set daily production targets for machine operators and handcrafters based on the weekly company targets, and guide the team in achieving these goals
7) Prepare daily production schedules
8) Be knowledgeable of the performance of machines and other resources used in the production line - regularly communicate with machine operators regarding performance of machines and as required, schedule machine preventative maintenance to ensure minimal production downtime
9) Recommend strategic activities to assist in ensuring optimal production output
10) Prepare monthly reports to reflect final/total production, work-in-progress, rejected productions and raw materials;
11) Schedule and conduct weekly Production Planning Meetings
12) Implement and maintain a robust Quality Control System;
13) Identify performance gaps, design and execute trainings to address areas of deficiencies;
14) Oversee an effective inventory system to systemically handle work-in-progress and finished products;
