OBJECTIVE/PURPOSE

• The Data Scientist will lead initiatives and provide support to the organization for the analysis, interpretation and management of data, as well as solving business problems using their expertise in a variety of data disciplines.
• Performs research and identifies, evaluates and implements solutions for the business to create value, meet strategic goals and transform the business by the adoption of new, emerging and disruptive technologies, especially through the leveraging of the organization's data assets.

FUNCTIONS

• Contributes to the data architecture vision and standards in conjunction with internal and external stakeholders in meeting the delivery of long-term strategic goals of the Division.
• Leads the development of a Data Strategy for the organisation and creates and updates a Data Management Roadmap as needed to achieve objectives.
• Develops short-term tactical data management solutions to achieve long-term objectives.
• Develops data mining and analytics architectures, coding standards, statistical reporting, and data analysis methodologies and works with cross departmental teams to define metrics, guidelines, and strategies for effective use of algorithms and data.
• Develops data management policies and procedures and provides quality assurance best practices for data across the organization.
• Conducts research and make recommendations on big data infrastructure, database technologies, analytics tools, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.
• Drives the collection of new data and the refinement of existing data sources. Establishes links across existing data sources and find new, interesting mashups.
• Develops algorithms, predictive and optimisation models to solve critical business problems.
• Helps stakeholders to analyse large datasets, both structured and unstructured, and identify meaningful patterns and informative visualisations that provide actionable results.
• Collaborates with database and disaster recovery administrators to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets.
• Utilises data visualization tools for development of dashboards and reports for business decision-making.
• Scans the technology environment of the global Gas and Oil industry continuously and performs research to gain industry knowledge and insights on emerging and disruptive technologies, and documents and presents ideas/recommendations to internal team and other stakeholders.
• Provides advisory services to Leadership and Business units on current technology trends and directions that are aligned to the business.
• Builds relationships with core business line leaders to develop a deep understanding of core business platforms and work collaboratively to define an approach to integrating new offerings that balances speed and scale.
• Conducts requirements elicitation and analysis (via ideation workshops) with the business to create requirements documentation and business process maps that will be used for Proof of Concepts (POCs) as necessary.
• Develops solutions that align to the lifecycle of IT solution delivery including requirements, architecture, software development (Agile/Traditional/DevOps) including POC solutions, Testing, Delivery and Production support.
• Prepares or reviews training materials and coordinates training programs and workshops for solutions prior to transition into the production environment.
• Develops and monitors the various controls and quality assurance procedures in the information system for applications developed in-house or obtained as packages.
• Provides Project Risk Management support for projects by developing or contributing to Risk Assessments, Risk Management Plan and Risk Registers.
• Supports Project Close Out and Post Project Implementation activities by conducting or developing Lessons Learnt documentation and Post Implementation Reviews.
• Executes any other related operational, technical, and professional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

The minimum requirements for the position are:

• BSc Computer Science, Information Technology, or relevant degree program
• Certification in Data Science would be a definite asset.
• A recognized certificate in Project Management would be an asset.
• Five (5) years’ experience in an Application Development or IT Solution Implementation environment.
• Experience in Data Strategy development and execution.
• Experience in Data Management, Data Visualization and Data Analytics using Artificial Intelligence, and Emerging/Disruptive technologies would be a definite asset.
• Experience in the Oil and Gas industry would be an asset.
