Customs Clerk I

Responsible for the timely and effective clearance of cargo and processing of customs documentation for the Organisation’s import and export operations.

• Timely clearance of import/export cargo, to minimize the occurrence of rent and demurrage on shipments
• Verify and sign customs documents for export shipment, ensuring timely exportation of all shipments
• Assist in monthly/annual stock taking as needed
• Promote safety awareness and the development of a Safety Culture within the company
• Liaise with external customers/contractors/suppliers as and when necessary
• Compliance with all EIGL Policies

• Check classification of goods to compute assessment of duty charges
• Examine cargo to ensure that it corresponds with the relevant entries and invoices and that goods are in sound condition before they are dispatched
• Assist in checking manufacturer’s records to ensure adherence to regulations relative to duty free concessions on imported raw materials/inputs
• Examine invoices and Bills of Lading to determine types of goods entering the country and special licenses required.
• Deliver completed documents to the bank, shipping agents, port and customs
• Preparation of payment vouchers for submission to Finance
• Maintain pertinent records
• Any other duties as required
